Space travel proves how far we have come as a planet and how far we can go. We can do anything we set our minds to.

Human space flight is a very honorable thing for human history, because of all the human developments from millions years ago until today. I think it is a great thing to explore the universe, because we need to keep explore that way we can improve our technology better. However, human should also learn from the exploration in the universe, that how valuable is one Earth, people should protect them and keep this planet as long as possible, instead of destroy it.

Hello everybody :)
Space was always fascinated me but I don’t agree wholly with idea of space travel. With milions of people which don’t have water or food for surviving I think it’s absured to send commercial flights in space . With money that world spend on racets, satellits I think that half of that money will save hungry people in Africa and all around the world. Of course that we should explore space around us like we was on Moon in 1969th but it’s not necessary to look for life on Mars or on every other planet if we have our beautiful planet Earth. Greetings to all ;)

I agree with you Javier. I believe that space travel will someday become an essential part of human survival due to how quickly we are laying waste to our planet. However, I think that your estimation of our extinction in the next 50 years is a little off. With our advancing technologies, we will be able to preserve what we have left and extend our survival for much longer than 50 years. But as I said, I agree with you on your main point.

I believe that it is and will continue to be nearly impossible to establish a colony and life on another planet. Even if we do establish a colony the planet will not contain the resources we need for survival. I believe that we need to focus on sustaining our planet rather than space travel.

    I agree with John,
that's it the true idea, to defend what we have now: The Earth Planet, our home.
However, I believe that investing in space travel development would pay off just in case our “efforts” (rather scarce, I must say) in saving our planet will not work.
In my case I'm firmly convinced that every euro/dollar spent in space return to us quadrupled.

Eric M-USA, Nov. 16, 2012

Hello everybody. I am Eric from the USA and personally I think that the universe is very interesting. The advancements that we have been able to achieve in the past 20 years is nothing short of outstanding. The rover that was sent to Mars is a huge accomplishment for the US as well as the rest of the world because it means that we are beginning to understand life beyond planet earth. Who knows, maybe one of these experiments may lead to the discovery of something extraordinary, like extra-terrestrial life.

Maybe you're right, but we can't know (if it's real) what the extra-terreste will be able to do. And there is no oxygen on Mars, i don't want to leave with a space equipment all of my life.

I'm agree with Morgan Schepens but there is oxygen on Mars but not enough to breath !

There is evidence that there was once possibly a sustainable ecosystem on mars, but that's far past, and Mars is a rather dangerous place to settle now. A more likely subject in our specific solar system would be Titan, one of the many moons of Saturn. It holds the best conditions in our solar system for colonization.

Mandy Chan, Nov. 8, 2012

Hi! I’m Mandy Chan from Taipei, Taiwan. I was watching the news on Curiosity on Mars, and our solar system has always fascinated me. The improvement of human technology allows us to send robot or cosmonaut to the empty space. The first human spaceflight was directed by the Soviet Union on April 12, 1961. This was a new milestone for human beings. Nowadays, space travel becomes very popular because of danger caused by global warming. Different countries began to compete with each other by sending astronauts into space. They felt the threat of the nature slowly destroying our planet, and hoping to find a new world. So you can say that space travel gives people hope, strength and faith. On this deteriorating Earth, people eagerly wanting to find a place that human generation can survive. Knowing that our planet is dying, exploring the unknown space gives us a chance. So space travel is a good influence to this rotten society.

SpaceX’s historic space station mission delayed again:

The private spaceflight company SpaceX was targeting the launch for Monday, May 7, but now will likely shift to a later date, possibly May 10. The unmanned Dragon spacecraft is due to lift off atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

NASA has released more videos of the mesmerising northern lights, captured from the International Space Station. Some of the videos show bright city lights of the northern United States and Canada.

Astronauts’ eyeballs deformed by long missions in space, study finds:

They were alerted to the issue when astronauts who had flown on the space shuttle and International Space Station reported changes to their eyesight, with some seeing worse and others better than they had before.

Brain scans revealed that seven of the 27 astronauts had a flattening of the back of one or both eyes. By making the eyeball shorter, this made the astronauts more long-sighted, which in some cases had the effect of reducing or correcting their short-sightedness.

This could impact the nascent space tourism industry.

A spectacular video of the space station flying above the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Auroras are caused when charged particles ejected from the sun slam into Earth’s atmosphere. These particles are usually guided along Earth’s magnetic field lines to the polar regions, which is why skywatchers in higher latitudes see them much more often than folks in more temperate climes do.
