Brazil’s Senate passed the new Forest Code late on Tuesday.

Brazil’s Senate, on Tuesday, passed a new Forest Code which will make it difficult to meet its targets on curbing greenhouse emissions, according to a former environment minister.

“The bill offers an amnesty to deforesters, reduces forest protection, and will lead to future deforestation,” said Marina Silva [Brazilian presidential candidate] at the UN climate talks in South Africa.
