Zoran M, today

I’m Zoran, I live in a small village in the north of Italy, the deforestation in the world is a big problem, i think to solve this problem we must follow the example of Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea that for every tree cut he makes plant two

Deforestation is a big problem that concerns the whole world. It causes:
- Landslides and floods
- Changes in the climate of the region
- Extinction of plant and animal species
- Greenhouse
I think that for every tree that you cut you have to plant more trees to avoid the total deforestation and that the most developed States should govern more the cut of trees.

Trees in jungles are being cut down in order to maintain the worlds population. We use too much wood for many thing such as houses, benches, warmth, etc. It’s amazing how much wood we use in our day to day lives in america. Also deforestation is destroying animals homes and driving them out of their homes and even to extinction.

Lol. Coming to a store near you: rainforest relaxation CDs. Now with saws and jackhammers added in the background!
Maybe promote the usage of recycled paper? Like for notebooks, etc.?

Definitely wood is a big part of our lives, however animals are too. In my opinion animals are more important than our necessities with wood. Therefore we should find an alternative to the wood so that we can reduce the amount of wood consumption and provide animals a home.

This might be undermining the cause, but it’s a question worth asking.

I happened upon this blog post which [probably] settled my long-standing animosity towards the issue. Now, in the world of science there’s always room for clarification, but it does conclude that paper towels, relative to air dryers, are the more hygienic, reliable, but [financially] costlier and slightly more [carbon footprint]-significant way to go.

On an unrelated note, this still doesn’t help the cause for the low ceiling air dryers some of these newer Taipei apartment bathrooms have; I’d rather a [*coughnotpapercough*] towel (if they ever get dry enough).

As to what extent daily buckets of used paper towels in school (including weekly “accidental” toilet clogging) contribute to deforestation, I’m not yet equipped to say. / Have a read.

Deforestation has become a terrible environmental hazard and needs to be handled. Millions of species lose their habitats due to deforestation; 70 percent of Earth’s land and plant animals live in forests and are being harmed by the destruction of their habitats. Because the forests are carbon sinks, carbon and other greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere when deforestation occurs. Also, forests protect against erosion and flooding so by cutting them down, the soil is more susceptible. Even though the majority of Earth’s plant based oxygen and carbon neutralization comes from ocean plants, forests still contribute a significant amount of oxygen for humans and animals to use in order to sustain life. Deforestation has had many grave consequences on the environment and it is up to us to restore the balance. By recycling more and planting more trees, we can help reverse the damage that deforestation has caused, one small step at a time. Just like Emilie A-USA has mentioned, we should strive to take better care of our home. Even though it might be a challenge, “preserving our beautiful earth is more important than making a profit.”

Hi! I’m Emilie and I live in the United States. The USA has one of the largest carbon footprints in the world. Because trees and plants actually take up carbon from the atmosphere, forests are very helpful in reducing our carbon footprints. We are rapidly cutting down forests and it needs to stop. We need them to survive. Also, the earth is a gift and destroying it would be a crime. Forests are beautiful and being an animal lover, I wish deforestation would stop because it kills and displaces so many animals, leaving them homeless and helpless. We should make a global effort to recycle paper and wood products and collectively realize that preserving our beautiful earth is more important than making a profit.

Hi Emilie I'm Jonathan and also from the United States. I completely agree with you and it's actually nice that there is a law that says for every tree that is cut down, a new tree must be planted in it's place.

Deforestation is a serious problem that needs to be stopped. It is something that I hate and want to stop. This is because many of the places that I love to visit are forests or a place with many trees. Almost half of the world’s original forests have been cut down, and most of it has been cut down recently. And sadly more than half of the world’s plant and animal species live in these forests that are being cut down. This needs to stop and we can all help to find a way.

Deforestation is a major problem in our world. This is when forests are cleared and the trees are being used to build homes, make furniture, and paper. when the trees are cut down in a really fast rate we don’t plant enough trees to make up for it. Another problem with losing the forest is we also lose a major carbon sink. With fewer carbon sinks we have more carbon going into the atmosphere. this causes a change in climate. A way we can prevent deforestation is to recycle paper or use less paper. Another way we can help is plant more trees and try to build another carbon sink.

Deforestation is a major problem. It is when people cut down trees so they can use the land for farming, homes, and other things. Over time as people cut down more trees there are fewer and fewer forests. This causes a big problem. One of the big problems about deforestation is that it changes the climate. In the process of photosynthesis plants change carbon dioxide into oxygen. This is very important to all living things. When you reduce the number of carbon dioxide absorbing trees then there is more carbon dioxide in the air. This causes a change in climate. Over the past 150 years thirty percent of the carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere has been because of deforestation. We should all try and help prevent deforestation. One way we can do that is by replanting trees, but that is not the only thing you can do. Another cause of deforestation is the making of products like paper. You can help prevent deforestation by recycling and using less paper.

I agree with Lizzie in the fact that deforestation is a major problem, however, I think that the rate of deforestation, if not now, will start to decrease because although paper is still in high demand, many people choose to use email in opposition to pen and paper, and many other daily tasks on a computer rather than paper. For example, at the school I attend, everyone uses a laptop for documents, note taking, and other school activities. It is a required piece of equipment. Nevertheless, there are countless trees felled a year, which is a tragedy. Those trees are the homes to animals (many near extinction), birds, countless other wildlife and provide the earth with more resources than we know.

According to this site alone over 80% of the amazons deforistation can be contributed to cattle. The forest is knocked down to make room for pastures, but the cattle releases major amaounts of CO2 thus hurting the enviroment even more.http://planetsave.com/2009/01/29/80-percent-of-amazon-deforestation-stems-from-cattle-ranching-2/

Hi, Mary Angela, I would have like to add that although urbanization/creation of cattle ground is a factor as well, but another factor that leads to deforestation is to create products that we use that are in high demands. Yes those are also factors, but they are not the only factors, and since the other factors are decreasing I believe that the rate of deforestation will eventually decline. I didn't say that the main cause of deforestation was to create paper.

Of course not,I was simply stating that the need for ceritan things and want for others are not decreasing. Many people provide for their familys through the cutting down of the rainforest please follow this link.
