I live in the United States and my carbon footprint is a lot smaller then yours. I guess that would be because I don't really drive.

Hi!
My name is Francesca; I live in a small village in the north of Italy.
This village and the towns nearby are beautiful because they are small and clean. we don’t have the problem of air pollution and the quality of life is good.
anyway I was impressed by my carbon food print in HOME and TRASPORTATION categories, Maybe because my village is far from other towns and I need to use my car or bus to go shopping or school; another important pollutant is heating in winter as my village is in the mountain.
My carbon footprint is the following:
TRASPORTATION: 1735 kg
HOME: 3225 kg
FOOD: 3634 kg
PUNCHASE: 549 kg
TOTAL: 9161 kg

Hey Francesca! Im Josh! Your Carbon footprint is impressive and alot lower then mine. Mine is nearly 15,000, and surprisingly to you, this is low for my area which is near Philadelphia in Pennsylvania in the United States of America. I have to take a bus to school everyday, too and from, and also i use alot of energy at home. I wish i lived in a small little village with cleaness, but i live in a town that is only semiclean. Best of luck with your project and learning about CO2 emmisions. Peace!

Hi, i'm raffaele l, I live in a north of italy, my carbon footprint is 6844 kg of CO, per year compared an average of 8181 kg for italy, and 3791 kg (=8358 lb) worldwide. My highest category was my home at 2934 kg.To reduce my level of CO I could change the light bulbs putting energy-saving ones or install solar panels, but at the moment it is very expensive to install them. My other categories are:transportation is 1151, food is 1569, purchases is 1190.

Rebecca Godin, May 13, 2013

Hi, my name is Rebecca and my total carbon footprint is 11560 kg. The average footprint in Ontario is 12000 kg. I am under the average, transportation was my highest out of all the four categories, 5645 kg. For home/energy 3592 kg, food 1622 kg and 601 kg for purchases. I was surprised about the amount CO2 released from transportation, but I live further away from the school.

Frank Dadparvar, May 13, 2013

Hello my name is Frank and I live in Philadelphia. This project was very interesting because I did not know that people could contaminate so much. Different countries contaminate more or less depending but in my opinion the country that contaminates the most is America. My biggest contamination problem provoked by me is transportation. I am from another country so when I travel we use a lot of gas and they are very long trips. During the next years I will not contaminate as much because I won’t travel.

Hi Frank, don't worry about transportation because I have the same problem. It is a good thing you won't travel as much, since that will lower that amount of gas you use.
  • erika wang erika wang May 14, 2013
Hey Frank, I agree with you. I also travel a lot. I usually fly international flights and if I am not flying I take a lot of road trips to Los Angeles. Good to know your trying to travel less to reduce c02!

I found that my transportation is very high due to the fact that I travel 50km to school in my pick up truck. I also found that around my house is very high does anyone have any suggestions?

For one thing you can get a bicycle for transportation. And for your house you can turn off the lights when you are not using them, as well as turning of the water when not in use.
  • Rebecca Godin Rebecca Godin May 13, 2013
Maybe use different types of electric bulbs that are more energy efficient and make sure not to forget to turn of the lights at your home.

Katie S, May 13, 2013

Hi, my name is Katie,

For my carbon footprint I did not except a specific number to have as my total carbon footprint. For my transportation: 715kg, Home: 34,006kg, Food: 2,991 and Purchases: 516kg. My highest section was home, for home I can try to recycle the best that I can, and lower the home section for my footprint. Shockingly, my purchases were lower then I expected them to be. Personally I thought that the total amount of money that I spend a year for clothes was a higher number. Food was lower than average, and finally for my transportation, I could try my best to bike or walk to shorter distance places instead of being driven there.

Well I think that you just need to bring down your home kg and bring up the rest of them by changing what your doing now.
  • Sam M Sam M May 17, 2013
Hi, katie you travel is really high maybe you should try car pooling more.
  • AIM Academy AIM Academy May 17, 2013
Chase Wayne, thank you for your recommendation. I could try to bring down my home kg by changing the lightbulbs to more energy efficient lights. As well as turning off lights more often. Another way to decrease the kg of my home is by taking shorter showers then I do now. However, I would not be able to bring up the rest of my data because then that would make my total footprint higher then it is now.

Onassis G, May 13, 2013

Hi my name is Onassis G. and I’m so exited to be doing an international project! I’m 14 years old and in 8th grade at AIM Academy. As a young teenager I thought my carbine footprint was going to be way higher then the average, but to my surprise I was just under the average to the people of Pennsylvania. The average person in Pennsylvania uses 20301 kg. My total turned out to only be 19936 kg. For transportation the average person in Pennsylvania uses 5337 kg. I use 8579, which is 3242 kg more then what I should be using. For home the average person in Pennsylvania uses 7841 kg. I only use 4735 kg, which is 3106 kg less, then the average person in Pennsylvania. For food the average person in Pennsylvania uses 4638 kg. I use 6222 kg, which is over the average by 1584 kg. For purchases the average person in Pennsylvania uses 2486 kg. I got 401 kg, which is 2085 kg under the average. I hope that I by seeing everyone’s post they can help me lower my score some more to help save our environment!

  • Billy- Bob Johns Billy- Bob Johns May 13, 2013
wow your results are the almost the same as mine! You should try and use less transportation and eat less
  • Chase Wayne Chase Wayne May 13, 2013
Well I think it is a good thing that you want to save the environment. And also I like what you score shows on how you have almost the same as the average person, but it can also be good to lower your score.
