Hello. I’m Sara and I’m from Italy, Pisa. I have calculated my carbon footprint. My carbon footprint on clothes is not too high but my carbon footprint at home and on the transport is quite high.

Giulia Marrucci, Nov. 22, 2011

Hello. I’m Giulia and I’m from Italy, Pisa. I have calculated my carbon footprint. I’m on the average of my country; but my carbon footprint at home is quite high. I’ll try to do my best to reduce my carbon footprint at home, especially with the shower.

Something else you could do to reduce your carbon emissions at home would be to maybe grow some vegetables or fruits in a garden. We talked about this in my biology class and one of my class mates brought this up. If you grow your own fruits and vegetables or at least some of them, instead of buying the canned, packaged or even frozen foods then that alone would help reduce your Carbon Footprint.

Kaitlin T- USA, Nov. 21, 2011

I calculated my carbon footprint with my class to find that it was smaller than average compared to most Texans, but gigantic compared to the rest of the world! More than half of it was made up of carbon I emitted travelling, though! I’m hoping this will help, but, apparently, over long distances, travel by bus is the greenest way to go! The way it line up is: cars and planes are about equally bad, trains are better than planes, and buses are the best way of all! This has no bearing on international travel, but I’m hoping I can put these tips to use, ‘cause I love both seeing and preserving the world! :)

Natasa K-Croatia, Nov. 19, 2011

Hi, I am Natasa and I am from Croatia. This whole project is amazing, and I am glad I take part in it. :)
I took Carbon Footprint Challenge and was pleasantly surprised with my results. They were surprisingly low! I think it is because I live in a small town, behave quite responsibly and care about energy and money. Another reason is that small things can make me happy – friendship, the beauty of a sunset or a good book, so I do not need the most expensive electronic devices or brand name products to feel good.
My lifestyle will change in future but I hope my Carbon footprints will stay approximately the same, because I am eager to help preserve our environment.

I agree with Marianne, and some other ideas include using reusable water bottles and grocery bags. Also, recycling paper, bottles, cans, and other items can decrease the amount of trash going into the landfills.
  • Denisa S-Greece Denisa S-Greece Nov. 18, 2011
you have to recycle more in your home..
  • M. A - Sweden M. A - Sweden Nov. 22, 2011
And you can also reuse old stuff or sell it if you don`t recycle it.

A SHOCKING VIDEO shown on the Australian TV which should be watched by anyone who holds the keys of a car.

It might be one of the most influential campaigns ever shown on TV. Just watch it and share it and a life may be saved today, tomorrow or in the future.

oh my god it's very hard ! I hope that no childran saw this video because it's so shocking ! Especially the scene where the child is hurt by the car ! Alkohol is a big poison and people don't know their limit…and this is the worst !
  • Marita Batsiou Marita Batsiou Nov. 17, 2011
To tell the truth, I often had to cover my eyes while watching it - I admit, I'm not that brave. Yet, I believe that some people have to be shocked to start driving, riding or even walking responsibly because road accidents keep taking a toll on human lives similar to - or even higher than? - that of a war.
  • Bettina M-France Bettina M-France Nov. 21, 2011
Wow !! It's scenes that happen on Christmas ?
very sad, very shocking and very dissuasive on driving while drunk !

Henry Watson, Oct. 27, 2011

I am an Application Consultant/Architect/Developer with a focus on emerging technologies and innovation in learning. I am particularly interested in business and practical use of virtual worlds, augmented reality, serious games, and social learning. I live in Vancouver Canada and currently am working on a very exciting project for IBM that involves many of these elements.

Here is an example of one of my previous projects for IBM that was awarded a Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning award for Best Use of Virtual Worlds for Learning:

I am open to discuss and assist in any innovative learning projects that involve emerging technologies for the benefit of improving the learning experience.

Amazing project! I'm an MA student - interdisciplinary - leadership, learning and technology - Needless to say I hope you share more of what you are doing.
  • Henry Watson Henry Watson Oct. 27, 2011
Thanks Jamie! My current project involves a 3D serious game / business simulation supported by a website containing various social tools that enable participants to connect, share, and learn from one another. This project is part of IBM's Smart Play Framework which is described in this short video: http://youtu.be/C1YaQRVLaIA
If/when footage of this project is published I'll be sure to post it here. Cheers, Henry

Henry, I am glad to stumble upon your post. I am not a techie nor I have the patience to try out myself what I am stating below!

I wonder if SL can be used in imparting training. Like can we use SL to impart soft skill training to individuals wgo are scattered at different places and cannot get together for a net meeting or web video conference.

If that is possible how can it be done? Is there already some such resources available?
If it is possible I am seeing an additional social benefit in reducing travel and thus leaving less carbon footprint.

At the moment I am just curious about the possibilities of SL in this area of application but may later want to make commercial use of this concept. So pl advise me if you think it fit.

    Thanks in anticipation :)
