Life in the Universe

The Life in the Universe curriculum is a unique set of resources, for elementary and middle school teachers, designed to bring the excitement of searching for life beyond Earth into the classroom. The SETI Institute, with funding from NSF and NASA, developed these award winning classroom materials with a team of educators, curriculum developers, and scientists. The Life in the Universe curriculum explores many facets of how scientists are trying to answer the questions: Where did life come from? What is its future? Are we alone?
In the Life in the Universe curriculum, students explore conditions that support life on Earth, and the possible existence of life elsewhere. The curriculum draws upon the experience of SETI scientists, whose research encompasses the full spectrum of Astrobiology: astronomy, life sciences, Earth sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, and many other disciplines. The hands-on science activities were tested nationally in a variety of schools representing a broad range of students. Organized around story lines, these activities pose challenges that require students to investigate what is known about life on Earth.

I think that we are not alone in the universe, too many events have made me understand this, the mysteries that surround the Earth and ‘universe are dozens and among these there is evidence of UFO sightings in the past and especially in this time, the universe is infinite and it is impossible that we are the only form of life present.

I think that inquiring into the possibility of life on other planets is a good and interesting thing, and I’d like to do it. I believe that life could exist in the Universe far from the Earth, and I don’t exclude the existence of life forms similar to the humans’ one (for me, everything is possible until the Science demonstrates I’m wrong). In my opinion the discovery of life in other planets would be a magnificent achievement of the humanity,so I’d like to study about astronomy and life when I’ll be older

Some scientists say it is impossible that there is life on other planets, others say that there may be a new form of life.I think it’s possible because if there is life on Earth can there be life on other planets …

I think there are life forms in the universe not yet established, does not mean human people, but small beings or micro-organisms and to exclude the presence of a Martian (hoping not to be wrong)! In this regard, I would suggest you start of scientific research as soon as possible to resolve finally this doubt !!!

I think that is possible that there is life in the universe, because has discovered that there are galaxies similar to our. But i don’t believe that that there are other humans in other planets;maybe it’s possible that there is a process of evolution similar to what happened on Earth millions of years ago… So i think that this story of the aliens isn’t an invention…

I think it is possible because some studies talk about the existence of other universes so it is possible that other lifes developped like our one.

I think there is life in the universe, in fact, the existence of galaxies and planets with characteristics similar to ours makes it likely that there are other life forms. You have a confirmation from the discovery of traces of water on Mars that suggest a possible form of life.

I would add that the understanding of our culture and of the cultures of other people, as well as the depth at which any culture is rooted is fundamental to many aspects of life. It is vital for the whole country, in order to make enligthened decisions in both internal and foreign policy.

The CNN blog entitled, “America must learn from Germany - before it’s too late,” presents a scenario in which international cultural understanding of Germany could help forge more successful domestic policy towards the US manufacturing sector

Why has Germany managed to retain and create research-intensive, high-wage manufacturing jobs while the USA manufacturing sector has lost 5.5 million jobs and 54,000 factories over the past ten years? Why hasn't Germany fallen prey to Asia's low waged base manufacturing model?

One key reason is that Germany has put in place a strategic, well-funded industry research institute that forges partnerships in applied research in key areas. In other words, while the United States focuses most of its R&D investment on mission-oriented research (e.g., defense and health) or basic research, Germany focuses on industrially-relevant applied research that gives their manufacturers and technology firms a leg up in global competition. This is why almost one third of German firms in a 2009 survey credited their innovations to German government research and innovation policies!

Understanding the culture of others, in this case Germany, must play a role in shaping US policy at home and abroad. More here…
