Before Cirque du Soleil — wayyy before… there were women performing all kinds feats of strength and acrobacy. Basically, these women were kicking some serious butt. I was looking up the Braselly Sisters, strongwomen who performed in the late 19thC, and I came across this fascinating article that describes some of the “Iron Ladies of the Old Times.”

Read about Olga the Mulatto (born in 1858), who could would hold a Civil War cannon from her teeth while it was fired, and her partner,Theophila Szterker, known as Kaira la Blanche.
I had no idea! Fascinating.
