Set to be released February or March of 2012 Toussaint L’OUverture is the anticipated film on Haitian revolutionary Toussaint L’Ouverture. A film that took almost 20 years to make, it is a look into a slice of history that unfortanuately we know too little about. The film is a Biopic of revolutianrry leader Toussiaint Louverture played by actor Jimmy Jean-Louis.

AutoLib green car rental scheme hit by vandalism in Paris
One month after its launch there are reports that Paris’ innovative car rental scheme has been hit by vandalism problems. One quarter of the 200 cars have had to be withdrawn as a result of vandalism and break downs, leaving just 150 cars in circulation.

A rough start indeed. But I remain faithful that AuotLib will *must* succeed.

I said it before and I'll say it again, AutoLib is doomed unless the cars are kept clean inside and out. The company must hire people to clean each car in the fleet at least 2 times a day. Would you patronize a hotel if it didn't clean its rooms after each customer check-out? Same concept. -

I don't know, Henry. Zipcar (http://zipcar.com) succeeds by obligating renters to leave the car clean. If they don't, they get charged for this on their credit cards. Maybe Autolib needs to do its research.

Karl Lagerfeld was a guest @LeWeb this week, a top flight internet conference held in Paris. It’s a scintillating discussion for all fashion+techy+geeks. Notice how everyone applauds for the fact that he owns 4 iPhones….not for the fact that he owns 300k books in his personal library!

Is the Euro Crisis impacted by cultural diversity of its member states?
The European Union is an amazing attempt at merging many governments and economies that are not only seperated by religion, politics and social reforms, but also by cultural differences.
The problems facing the EU is as old as the problems with societies in the Middle East. The cultural differences, the way the people think and the way they deal with issues.

Above link goes to an article about cultural differences between France and Germany that create difficulty for President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel to agree on details of the Euro Crisis plan.

Yaaaay!!!! :) I tried the AutoLib yesterday for the first time and it’s incredible!!! I already love it. It officially launched on Monday of this week in Paris.
If you haven’t heard, AutoLib is a pay-as-you-drive electric car rental in Paris. 1200 of them have their own special electric parking spaces around the city. I’m very happy about it because it’s very cost saving, reduces pollution and traffic.
How much does it cost? €5 for 30 minutes (almost same as 2 metro tickets), €10 a day, €15 a week or €144 a year.

Similar to a hotel room, keeping these cars clean inside and out on a daily basis will be critical to the success of the program. I love this concept, but would quickly stop using it if the car interiors are not cleaned daily. -

Too cool. I'd sell my car in a heart beat if I had access to this service.

Thousands of Protesters Obstruct Nuclear Waste Train Transport:
Protesters have stalled a train carrying radioactive waste from France to Germany. A string of clashes and obstructions has made the journey the slowest one since the annual shipments of radioactive waste began in 1995.
The controversial cargo is headed for the Gorleben temporary storage facility for nuclear waste in northern Germany. On Monday, the 11 containers are to be moved by crane to a special transporter which will carry them the final 20 kilometers (12 miles) by road.
Anti-nuclear protesters have already gathered to block the road to Gorleben, in the western German state of Lower Saxony. In total, some 20,000 German police have been mobilized.

One of the most beautiful places in France is the little known town of Annecy. It is nestled at the foot of the Alps at the northern tip of Lake Annecy, one of the most crystal blue mountain lakes in the world. The mountain hiking near Annecy is fantastic too!

Henri Matisse’s large format illustrated book titled “Jazz” (1947) was “performed” primarily in 1944 under arduous circumstances during the German occupation of France. Because illness made easel painting difficult, Matisse cut images out of paper and arranged them as collages from which his assistant prepared stencils and then made prints. The twenty images in Jazz are non-musical subjects drawn from everyday life - e.g., The Clown, The Swimmer in the pool. The abstract forms are made accessible by the titles. I find that their freshness and boldness inspire even today.
Here are some collages from the Jazz series by Henri Matisse, plus various paintings, exhibited at the Centre Pompidou.
