What I didn’t know was that most of prAna’s clothing (like almost all brands of clothing these days) was delivered to the store and to mail-order customers individually wrapped in plastic baggies. When you buy off the rack, you don’t see the plastic that has been removed by store staff. But after pressure from prAna staff and customers, the company has now begun to phase out the polybags and sell some of their clothes simply rolled up and tied with raffia. How the Fashion Industry Is Embracing Social Media

Marc Jacobs has done an impressive job integrating its brand into the traditional social media sites, but the high fashion brand really shines when it comes to its work with Foursquare.

Victoria’s Secret has nearly 17 million likes on Facebook, and is currently engaging over 250K users at any given time. The brand is also over-active on Twitter and YouTube, extending its social media reach into every conversation possible.

Clearly, there’s no reason for the fashion industry not to embrace social media. In many ways, seeing the fashion industry communicating with consumers almost humanizes it. It allows customers to voice opinions right to the source while showing off.

Haider Ackermann is certainly one of the hottest designers on the scene.

Born in Colombia in 1971, he spent his childhood in France, Ethiopia, Chad, Algeria and the Netherlands. His fashion designs tastefully reflect his international upbringing.

Also known as the new Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld sees Ackermann to be his ideal successor at Chanel. Tough to get a stronger nod of approval than that, right?

Will Raf Simons Replace John Galliano at Dior?

Since the disgracefully embarrassing fall of John Galliano, Dior has yet to fill the void of artistic director for their fashion house. Well, Raf Simons seems to be in play now. Honestly, I wish Dior would get on with their decision making over there. Galliano was sacked (rightfully so) in March!

Alber Elbaz is one of the super respected artistic designer for the house of Lavin. He’s not the showiest designer in the world, but that doesn’t mean he’s not one of the top people in the design world.

Every Christmas season, London’s Claridge hotel chooses a fashion designer to dress their christmas tree. It’s a coveted tradition. Elbaz was chosen for the honors this year. I saw it yesterday… splendidly brilliant!!!

Jean Paul Gaultier was recently celebrated at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts with “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk”, the first international exhibition devoted to the celebrated French couturier. The exhibition ran in Montreal from June 17, 2011-October 2, 2011 and then travels to Dallas, San Francisco, Madrid and Rotterdam.
