La La La Human Steps is one of the more thrilling dance companies today. I saw them perform last month and their sexy urban chic style was thrilling.

Their piece entitled New Work, one of their more conservative dances, explores power in relationships. It comment on the male gaze, as well as gender relations. The dancers’ movement often seemed mechanized, with the men frequently manipulating their female partners’ motions. It’s a beauty!

PINA is a feature-length dance film in 3D with the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, featuring the unique and inspiring art of the great German choreographer, who died in the summer of 2009.

PINA is a film for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders.
I hope you like it.:)

PINA is one of the more extraordinary films I've ever seen. A monumentous tribute to Pina Bausch. Pina passed away during the preparation of this documentary. But Wim Wenders end up carrying on with the production. If you want to see some of PIna's best known peices, this Wim Wenders film is definately worth seeing! +1

The Philip Glass opera “Kepler,” will have its American premiere during the Festival. The opera is about astronomer Johannes Kepler…awesome!

The dance lineup includes performances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet….always beautiful!

The internationally known arts festival was started in Charleston in 1977 by composer Gian Carlo Menotti as a companion to his Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Here’s the performance line up: http://www.spoletousa.org/home/

Rennie Harris, the renowned hip hop dancer who directs his own Puremovement company in Philadelphia, was invited to create a new work for the Alvin Ailey dance company this season.

“Home,” a dance about the AIDS crisis, will receive its premiere on Thursday, Dec. 1st, the day after Ailey opens its annual engagement at New York City Center. Rennie is one of the best and 100% faithful to old school hip hop.

For Alvin Ailey, a New Leader—and a New Style: The dance world will be watching the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater closely this fall—it’s the first season for the group’s new artistic director, Robert Battle, who replaced longtime director Judith Jamison. Adding to the challenge: The dancers are trying a new, unfamiliar dance style. They are tackling Gaga, a form of contemporary dance known for aggressive physicality and dramatic, raw power.

Carbon Dance Theatre made its Philadelphia debut Thursday evening at the Performance Garage with Swan Songs, a serious contemporary ballet program that uses the final songs written by classical and contemporary artists just before their deaths.

Carbon’s founding artistic director, Meredith Rainey, is a former Pennsylvania Ballet soloist and this year’s A.W.A.R.D. show winner for a duet he choreographed and danced with Sun-Mi Cho. Here’s a montage of the duet performed for the show.

Bill T. Jones is one of my preferred American dancers. An accomplished artistic director and choreographer, his contribution to the art of dance has been felt around the world for more than three decades. Enjoy his genius!

Get blown away by the League of Extraordinary Dancers, a street dance troupe presented by director John Chu, who’s doing a web series about them. When you watch this, pay close attention to what each of the dancers says in their intros and outros — it gives you deep insight into what drives their particular style. But the REAL magic is at the end, when they dance together.
