Discussions Discussion Deforestation SOS
Davide A, May 24, 2013

Deforestation is a real problem, lots of trees fall down because of human actions we do. In 1990 the deforestation was big, Nowadays is decreasing but some countries keep on destroying the environment. The most deforestation is in Southern America, Eastern and Southern Africa; on the contrary in Europe and north America the problem of deforestation is less incisive . In my country (in the north of Italy) a lot of trees fall down because there are lots of ski resorts and most of people use wood for heating.

I’m Zoran, I live in a small village in the north of Italy, the deforestation in the world is a big problem, i think to solve this problem we must follow the example of Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea that for every tree cut he makes plant two

Deforestation is a big problem that concerns the whole world. It causes:
- Landslides and floods
- Changes in the climate of the region
- Extinction of plant and animal species
- Greenhouse
I think that for every tree that you cut you have to plant more trees to avoid the total deforestation and that the most developed States should govern more the cut of trees.

Discussions Discussion Technology solutions for climate change
Dimitrios Theodoridis, May 15, 2013

I am Greek, I live in a beautiful town in the north country, called Kavala. I teach physics mainly and give some project lessons which involve most of the time environmental issues. In my school, we are trying to engage with recycling, composting, solar panels, electric bicycles and other ways that help the environment which is our global home to recover.
Personally, I think that we must built the ‘Earth Schools’ or the ‘Earth Homes’ which are friendly to the environment. New technology could give a great help in this way. Finally, students could be our messengers to the local community and become bodies of this knowledge.

Discussions Discussion My Plastic Free Life
jay chou, Nov. 29, 2012

HI, my name is Jay Chou. I am from Dominican International School in Taipei, Taiwan. i think its not necessary to use plastic bag when you buy things. You can bring your own bag. You can save money, and save the environment, make the Earth the better place. Every time you didn’t bring your own bag, you will need to buy the plastic bag, after using the bag people will throw it away, and you can’t really burn it, it will produce bad things to damage the environment and its dirty to recycle it. So i suggest to bring your own plastic bag that can use for many times. Save the Earth with me people, make the Earth the better place, and let your children to live happily

I agree. Whenever i go out to buy something, I don't even use a bag. I don't buy too may things to a point where I can't hold them in my hands without a bag. If I do buy many things, I usually use a paper bag, which still isn't as good as using a reusable bag.

Serena Yeh, Nov. 28, 2012

Hi, my name is Serena. I am from Dominican International School in Taipei, Taiwan. Have you ever heard that iPhone is PVC free? I recently discovered that iPhone4 and later models are made 100% free of plastic. I find that it is a pretty awesome fact and also proud of being a fan of Apple products. The reason I say so is because that I am aware the other brand’s phones such as Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, Lumia 900, etc. all contain plastic materials. In all honestly, I believe that Apple seems to be the only company that stresses the importance of environmental protection by using only environmental friendly materials. Not only iPhones are PVC free, the other major products of Apple including MacBooks, iPods, and iPad are also 100% free of plastic. Since we are living in a technology era and 3C products are becoming necessity in our daily living, I appreciate that Apple has done a good job in making PVC free products to help reduce environmental impact.

Cole D-USA, Nov. 26, 2012

Hi im cole and I live in the US. I agree with Evan that the US does pollute and destroy the earth a lot(even though they have acts and laws that they have been put in place to protect and save our earth) and that each person can use less harmful materials. I believe that each and every person should do something or change something in their life so that the Earth benefits from it. the only thing is that we humans are always looking for a better quality life, and in that search we tend to overuse and abuse our finite environment. So its up to us to figure out the balance between human health(quality of life) and the environment.

Stephanie F-Usa, Nov. 20, 2012

Hi, my name is Stephanie, and I live in Houston. Being a teenager, I am surrounded by people who just have to have the latest and greatest technology. I have to admit, I am one of those people. A lot of the reason my carbon footprint is so big is because I’m always using my new technology 24/7. This is very bad for the environment, and it wastes a lot of energy. I think we should try to resist buying the latest technology. It’s absolutely unnecessary to have it immediately. This would help the environment, and it would lower our parents’ electric bills (which is a great thing).

Hello, my carbon footprint had a lot to do with technology too. I am not kind of person who needs the latest and greatest in technology, but I am on my laptop all the time. Also, the TV in my house is on so often, even when no body is watching it. Turning off the TV or lights or even the sink when you are brushing your teeth is such a tough habit to break, but if we all broke it I think we could all reduce our footprint, if only by a little bit.

I agree with Callie, most of my footprint comes from technology I try to reduce it by always taking my actions into account. That will hopefully reduce it some, something is better than nothing…

Hello everyone! I am Evan and I am from the United States. I feel like out of all the nations, America produces the most pollution and destroys the environment the most. I think we all can produce less pollution by using less energy consuming products and switch to more energy efficient resources. If we do this we can greatly affect the environment we live in and make a greener planet.
