We are the product of our society. Americans are among some of the wealthiest citizenry of the world; our opportunities are boundless. Our society is one of rapidly-developing technologies and state of the art research and developments. That’s just the way it is. Our economy depends on our consistent purchasing of technological goods. In America, it’s not a question of “Do I want this” or “Do I need this,” it’s simply the society we live in: a prosperous one, that encourages capitalistic spending.

    I completely agree with what you say, melanie, but is that really good? and what can we do to change that mentality to better benefit both ourselves and the earth that is providing us with all the materials we capitalize on? Wealth is worth nothing if you do not have a world to spend it in…
